mediation - not always a wise choice

"Divorce mediation may be disfavored or present special challenges with parties having vast differences in their power (financial sophistication, bargaining savvy, and most significantly, where there is a history of partner violence or abuse)."
I personally know of one situation where this was proven true. The mediator did not try to help the parties reach a middle ground, she simply caved in the presence of the "stronger" personality type.
The mediation was post divorce and was intended in determing what was in the best interest of the child. It blew up and as the years went by, so did the child.
I will decline mediation as an acceptable way to attempt to resolve any differences.
