Today is a good day!

A few of you may remember me, as the SM of the young man who lives overseas with his BM and military SF. He had been moving around from state to state and then overseas, and failing school for years. He was also caught shoplifting and stole a bike over the last couple of years. He had a sword collection and a temper (once punched a wall & broke his hand), so I seriously wondered about him going off the deep end at some point. We figured he would continue to spiral out of control and didn't know what would happen to him. It was like waiting for the other shoe to drop every day.
Today BM e-mailed DH to tell him that SS got his GED and joined the military! DH just talked to him on Sunday, but apparently SS thought he'd be upset so made his mother tell DH after he left for basic training! I don't know if he was thinking his dad would be worried about Iraq, or if he thought he'd be disappointed that he won't be coming to the college where I work, but -hey- any improvement is improvement!
Have to admit that I'm also thrilled that CS is over and that BM won't be getting "her pay," as she called it, anymore (she doesn't work). We thought DH would be paying for another 2-3 years, since she was quick to point that out since he wasn't going to graduate for that long. This came at a great time as DH's overtime was just cut, and we were both looking for second jobs.
Sorry if I sound like I'm gloating, but I wanted to share with people who I know will understand.
