Immediate Offset Method

Please tell me more about Immediate Offset Method. In another post it is stated that the value is determine by calculating the “current cash value of the future pension payments”. Which I take as meaning that you would get the value based on the possible future worth of the pension – now. So if I were to opt for this method and use the value in his pension exchange for his interest in the house – what, if any tax consequences would I incur? Any benefits? TIA
