Big Prob/2 Div H I never lived with/nor know?HELP

Hi, I'm New to this board; I have no clue how to do this...I'm sure some of you old timers/posters/legal people perhaps, may have an idea--Here's my BIG PROB--In 1986, I married a stranger while in a drunken stupor (we were both VERY drunk) Don't really remember much about it (the marriage) except waking up and saying, "Who are you?" -- He showed me a paper which said we were married (a marriage certificate) <eeks> -- Well, I got home to my significant other back then, and tried to get the whole mess straightened out (He's now deceased so he can be of no help with memory things, etc.)...Prior to getting home back then, The stranger H and I, tried to get it taken care of/resolved in Tahoe, Ca., but were told since we married in Ca. and not Nevada, our marriage was legal...Well, my dear one (at the time) and I, tried to get it taken care of/resolved (to no avail)--The stranger H, left the area after a few contacts (I was trying to get him to pay for the divorce since he was after lawsuit money I never received--I thought that to be fair at the time, since IMO, he married me because of that--I had been shooting off at the mouth (from what I had/have heard in that bar--about a malpractice case I was in)--I lost all contact with him, and since he is a stranger I have no clue where he ever went/I seriously doubt I would even recognize him if I saw him on a street, etc. --...I was in the middle of ending the other relationship for an even more ???? reason than that one night marriage (won't go there now)-- This is bad/embarrassing enough, but before leaving Ca. I did talk with an attorney, and she too told me I had to get a divorce since I had married in Ca. --- I recall I may have tried to start something about a divorce with her, but really cannot remember (it's too long ago), and I have no clue who she was/is, anyway...That was all back in 86-87...I have since made my home in Iowa off and on since 87, on permanently since 92 when I bought my small home out here in the wonderful Midwest, cleaned my life up, and fell in love, etc. ... Through the years, since I had no plans to ever marry (because of being on SSI and not wanting to lose my benefits/mostly my much needed medical--Had a breakdown in the Army while in boot camp-1981, and have a generalized anxiety disorder, still in therapy, etc.) I haven't done anything about that crazy one night marriage--Because I am on SSI, I had mentioned that to them (SSI people) more than once in the past (my M status) but they have pretended like I wasn't married or turn their eyes/ear when I have mentioned it, etc.--So, that too left me thinking, oh well-- and, after awhile I just quit mentioning it at all when I have had to fill out forms, etc. with Social Security---
Now, things are different in my life (about marriage)...The man I have lived with and love dearly (for almost 13 years) has lung cancer, just had part of his lung removed the 10th of this month--We would like to get married before he dies, if he might die soon. I know legally we cannot marry since I am legally married to a stranger, so I have little clue how to resolve this mess (The one night marriage)...I need to resolve that one night marriage ASAP...Do any of you have any ideas????--All I have, and I am not even sure where it might be, is a copy of the marriage license? I know I can get one from a court house in the Tahoe, Ca. area? --For all I know maybe he's dead, or maybe he divorced me? I have no way of knowing--I don't know the person or anything about him...In 96 I was back in that town (on vacation) where I had lived, and where I had met him in a bar, and I asked some people about him--They had no clue what I was talking about, or who I was talking about...I haven't given that mess much thought at all since 96...
Now, I've read a few things on this divorcesource.com place, about putting an ad in a paper? -- I have no clue how to do any of this...I do not have very much money either, since I am disabled, but will find some monies to resolve this in a real fast way, if that is possible? If any of you know how I can go about this please email me at: Carla752@aol.com ... I need this info. like yesterday, if possible? Any and all advice is much appreciated! I will call an attorney very soon, too--and see if maybe legal aid can help me, too?

The only good thing I can say about the whole crazy mess is whoever my stranger H is, he's the best Hubby I have ever had to present; haven't heard a word from him in almost 20 years ;-) (just a little humor, for a crazy situation;)

I live in Iowa, not Ca. where the marriage took place; Don't know if that makes a difference about an ad? I also have no clue where he last lived since I met him in a bar--I didn't know him at all; he is/was a total stranger, and still is...I am bringing that up since the article's I am reading say something about the person's last known address for the ad/s--I know on the marriage thing his address was listed as my old address, even though he never lived in my significant other or my home. He was only in our home once when we thought he would sign some papers for us; that was one of the last times we saw him, I believe? It's been too many years to remember all that. HELP!!!!
