Divorce proceedings in two countries

I would appreciate if anyone could point me to web links or other sources of information I can look up.
Here is the issue/background: my brother filed a divorce in India (hyderabad) and my sis-in-law has filed divorce proceedings in New York. By quirk of fate, both cases were filed on the same date ( the case in India was filed at least 12 hours ahead due to time differnce).
My sis-in-law is trying to stall proceedings in India so that she can get a judgement in her favor in New York. Right now, the New York court has slapped my brother with child support of $1100 per month from his monthly take home pay of $1600.00 (he currently works in India).
My brother had an anxiety attack in the court during the earing and his brain literally shutdown and was unable to take a stand. (People may find it hard to believe, but it is true.) Accordng to my brother his lawer literally bamboozled him into agreeiing to the amount as he (the lawyer) wantd the case to be over that day.
From the events of that we strongly believe, his lawyer had some kind of undersanding/collusion with the plaintiff's lawyer. According to my brother, his lawer disregarded facts of the case including that my brother suffered verbal abuse (there is evidence with Nassau County Social Services), and his every action/move was with the advise and knowledge of his counsels. Now he has been let down by them like hot bricks. Unfortunately for my brother, his first legal counsel fell sick and he turned over the case to his present lawyer, about whom we knew very little.
My family is trying to get a fair hearing for my brother at this late stage. I would like information on proceedings in which court would take precedence.
I would sincerly appreciate any information / sources that we could use. TIA
