help for out of control teen

My son is 13 years old. He has been progressively showing worse behavior the past few years. He's been violent towards me to the point he is on probation. He has exceeded the number of suspensions you can have in a year (i was informed of yesterday), so the school is now putting him in ISS and they are going to have a hearing as to if he needs to go to alternative school. I am taking him to see a counselor today.

I don't know what else to try with him. He simply doesn't care. My grandmother passed away last week after a long battle with Alzheimer's. My children and I were with her the entire day and all he was worried about was getting his tv back. I had made a deal with him that if he brought home his homework assignments all week and had good behavior, I would give it back to him. He did not fully comply but argued that since school was closed the last two days of the week he couldn't have.

I gave it back to him and the next morning caught him trying to sneak an R rated movie to his room in his pocket and had a lighter in the other. I took his tv and he proceeded to destroy everything in his room, then take a broken metal bar from his fan and put holes in almost every door in my house. I called my husband (his step father) and while talking to him he left.

I called police but they did nothing. He finally called from another county at around 8pm. He walked up to a strangers house and asked to use the phone!!!! This behavior is getting so dangerous and I don't know how to make it clear to him that he has to change it.

When I talk to my ex about it, he simply says "let me have him". I totally understand where he's coming from but my son needs to learn to deal with his problems, not relocate every time things get tough.

Any suggestions would be helpful.
