Justification for violence toward women

This cut from the Alimony forum: Hi,My wife and I are amidst negotiating spousal support before signing a separation agreement, and I need some advice.
We were married for 2.5 years. During our first year of marriage, we both had independent sources of income. 2 years ago, we moved from upstate to NYC, where I got a job ($180K) and she quit her job to seek something new. She never found a job the first year, and second year, she chose to go back to school to finish her bachelor’s. In short, I have been the sole earner for two years.
She has moved out (after fights about $ and marriage; no extreme scenario) and is now asking for spousal support for a year in the amount of 30K, and I am trying to decide if this is reasonable. The way I see it is, we have no children, and we lived in a rented apartment, so she has had minimal household responsibilities. Although she did give up her career in upstate to move with me, and I agreed to support her while she looked for a new career, she has been financially independent until just these two years. It was also her decision to go back to school instead of continuing to look for a job.
Since this is the attitude of most women upon breakup of a marriage, violence is certainly justified in most cases.
