Visitation supervision

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone can help me with the legalities of what I am facing. My ex and I broke up over a year ago, just before the birth of our son. It has been ten months since he has been to visit and he's planning his first one since the custody hearing for the weekend of the 19th. Obviously, I am concerned about my ex taking our son for five hours since to our son he is a stranger and I don't like the man. Personal feelings aside, I just want to be sure that our son is comfortable being with him, so I suggested going on the first visit with them. He refused. Is there anything I can do about it? Could I be in violation of the courts if I follow them? Thank you for your help.
