More stuff from ex

Now I am being told by the ex that I am responsible for paying up front for a retainer for orthodontist work. Below is what in the divorce judgement:
19. The parent incurring out-of-pocket medical expenses on behalf of the minor child shall advise the other parent, in writing, in a timely manner of all medical expenses incurred and, within thirty (30) days of the receipt of any bill or insurance notice that all claims have been processed and paid (whichever is later), shall forward same to the other parent for payment of his or her share. Each parent shall pay his or her share of the unpaid medical expenses within sixty (60) days of the receipt of the final bill.
Does the above mean I need to pay up front a retainer without a receipt from ex? I have been tricked before by paying bills without seeing actually EOB and finding out my supplement insurance covers the cost. Then the ex saids there is no documentation of me paying, of course there is she cashed the check.
Also, my lawyer told I should not pay anything without final EOB - however does this apply to retainers? I am afraid to ask my lawyer this question because every question cost at least $300 bucks, if you know what I mean.
Thanks in advance.
