Some tax questions about who pays?

I am trying to do some advance tax planning and will talk to my own accountant, but I am confused about how this year's taxes will work as I was divorced halfway through the year. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My ex-husband is retired and he has been withdrawing from his pension throughout the year. So until about June we both used those funds. This was our primary source of income for the first half of the year. After the first half of the year he continued to withdraw to support his lifestyle, but I didn't recieve any benefit from those funds.
So who pays the taxes? Do we each file single and split the income, or does he pay taxes as the withdrawals were made in his name? Do we split the amount up to the first half of the year and he pays taxes on the amount withdrawn post-divorce?
An ancillary question, if anyone wants to tackle it. The divorce decree specifies that alimony is paid for a length of time. It also specifies that the spousal support continues after his death. It is my understanding that in order for payments to be considered alimony for tax purposes it must cease at the death of the payor. As our divorce decree specifies that the payments continue past his death does this mean that the payments are neither deductible for him or taxable to me?
Thank you all for your help.
