Disappearing Dad

My husband and I decided to adopt our son 6 years ago and he is now 8 and our daughter 2 years ago and she is 11. Two months ago he said he needed to be happy and he made a mistake adopting the kids. They are out of fostercare and are more difficult than some, but are great kids. We have not seen him since. My son is devasted and of course dealing with abandonment issues and my daughter, who's biological father left her at age 7 is of course going through flashbacks and feelings of worthlessness. I am in shock at my husbands revalation and ability to so easily leave these kids. Looking for any opinions.
