adult children visiting the ex

My adult children continue to visit and talk to my ex. they are aware of the reasons for the divorce...alcoholism, adultry, amongst others. They say they see him for what he is but he is still their dad and want to see him. the divorce is final but there are stil loose ends to tie up and he is still being hurtful to me. I don't understand why they want to see the man that continues to hurt me. My relationship with them is great except for this differnce.
I am still very angry and want to hurt him. It hurts me.
Is this one of things that "just takes time?"
