Separation time re: alimony

My wife left over 3 years ago. She didn't work a lot during the marriage due to the economy. Yet, she prepared for her leaving and got a job several months before she left. She's since only had a little help from me say emergency but other than that no on-going support. I went ahead and filed for divorce and we agreed to come up with an agreement together. We talked it out and eventually I agreed on a figure she came up with. I got it all drawn up and she suddenly refused to sign and is counter suing for support. Thing is her lawyer won't send a counter offer. I don't if she now wants to go to court or what. My atty says she has no case because generally in my state if she can work and is working a judge won't grant alimony. I do make twice what she does but he still doesn't see that as an issue and noted that since we spent nearly 2 years sleeping apart our separation is considered longer. The question is can a woman who's been taking care of herself several years really expect support? I've been told by many friends (some who've worked in large legal firms) that she's likely to get nothing if we go to court and I've warned her of that. Now we just don't speak and we wait.
