Ex husband will barely let me talk to my kids!!

Hi all. Well I am going through alot of crap with my ex husband right now. Basically he has the kids in FL and I am in TX. The reason Im in TX is because I didnt have the money to live out in FL on my own so now im staying with my mom until I can save up some money and get back there.
Anyway, my ex is not all that concerned with me keeping in contact with the kids. I maybe get to skype with them once a week but when I mention wanting to talk to them a couple of days out of the week on the phone he acts like its just too much trouble. He could care less about me having contact with them...which I know is because he hates me.. Alot of things happened which led to our divorce , but he cant see past his feelings about me in order to let the kids have contact with their mom.
Anyway I did have a lawyer when I was living in FL for a short time on my own, which obviously didnt work out for me because I was not able to get a job there quick enough. Anyway but now she wants to charge me an insane amount of money for texts and emails which she didnt tell me up front and I dont have the $480 that she wants from me so I had to let her go. Now I need to find another lawyer, actually a low cost lawyer like her, to help me. THe thing is I cant really do much here from TX anyway..THe only solution right now seems to be money which is tough because I actually have 13000 in cc debt that I have to pay off still...
Well, anyway I cant reason with my ex. It gets me nowhere. I am just wondering if any of you have any suggestions on how to deal with him and at least get to talk to my kids more... I am just really frustrated with all this and it kills me that I am missing out on so much of their life. I have been away from them since April of this year.
I really would appreciate any advice.. Thanks to everyone for reading this.
