What does "Child Support" mean? Literally!!?!?!?

Even though I've been divorced for 12 years, my ex-wife continues to assert that child support pays for only certain items but not others. In particular, she believes that education, clothing, and extra activies are NOT covered by child support, and that there should be additional support to cover those expenses.

My question: is there a formal definition of "child support" for Massachusetts? If not, is there a general (not state specific) definition?
