The FIL/MIL debacle...

For those who may be wondering whatever happened with this, I think I stopped posting much on it after the state put them both in the home and declared FIL wasn't incompetent...that he just made poor judgments.
Well, he's still making poor judgments.
MIL was dianosed with breast cancer. FIL was stumped about what to do. Apparently, her good-for-nothing state guardians are spending her money left and right and don't have time to be bothered with trivial details about whether or not to operate. So...he calls her sister and has the Deacon call her son because he's too embarassed to speak to him. He wants one of them to make the decision. Sister won't make that decision. Hubby tells them to first see if it's operable...find out what kind of cancer. Ok, so they do that, it's malignant and they also find cancer in the bones. He still wants to do the operation, but again...calls her sister and asks her to make the decision.
So hubby talks to the old neighbors tonight. They're holding a bunch of FIL's military pension checks. He's never changed his address...in an entire year. The house was sold by the state, the new owners are giving his mail to the neighbors. You would think he'd wonder where all his money is, but he has no clue about such matters.
FIL has begged the sister to take over as her guardian, but we all wanted her to be the guardian back during court and FIL stood up and told the judge he didn't want ANYONE in her family having any say in her care. Now he tells her sister he's made too many mistakes and wants her to take over. However, her own daughter has cancer and she's had problems with her eyesight, so she CAN'T take the responsibility on now. Seems like FIL not only shot himself in the foot but took MIL with him. And all hubby can do now is face it from a distance and just wait to hear the next piece of bad news as relayed to him from church and neighbors.
The wonderful grandkids he put so much stock in have abandoned him. They helped to get him into a home and pilfered the belongings in the house, carted off MIL's car to auction. No one knows where all the money for all that went. The only thing they show a case for is the proceeds from the house sale, and they split that between FIL and MIL. MIL's car? I'm sure somebody got that money, but it wasn't either of them. Even though, FIL had already wrecked it twice while driving without a license because he didn't feel the DMV had the right to take his license on the advice of his 20+ year family doctor who put in writing that he had dementia and wasn't capable of caring for himself.
I'm not sure who's judgment is poor here. FIL or the state of VA.
