Divorcing a Self-Employed Spouse - 09/18/17 06:59 PM

My STBX has decided to play the I am dead broke during the divorce proceedings.

Do judges fall for this?

If hiring a forensic accountant or doing discovery is "not worth the money", then you're accepting the result. I expect the judge will rule based on the documents put before him. He'll only disbelieve your husband if you present evidence as to why he shouldn't be believed.

If the amount of money is significant, sic your lawyer on him.

If that's not worth the money or trouble, just move on.

Thanks for the comment TJMH.

I have been collecting evidence of his business dealings myself.

I guess I am just tired of the run around from this fool. Only if everyone was honest and not out to get one another during divorce proceedings. :-)

If you referring to income, judges go by previous year's tax returns.
