Me: 35-years-old, work full-time, earn $40k/yr. I can save about $500/mo living on my own but not enough to pay for school.

Him: 38-years-old, works full-time, earns $90k/yr.

Our marriage was 10-years-long, in Michigan. I cheated once but it was 8 years ago, could that possibly matter today?

I think $1,000/mo spousal support is fair. Any thoughts?

Typically there's no formula for judgment spousal support, either you agree on a number or the judge has to evaluate a number of subjective factors in deciding on an amount.

That said, a common rule of thumb I've heard is something like 40% of the supporting party's income (net after taxes) minus 50% of the supported party's income. You might use that as a starting point.
