Brian A. Robertson, BS, RRT, MAE, JD, completed his undergraduate degree in 1994 attending the University of South Alabama. He was then accepted into the graduate program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and was awarded Outstanding Graduate Student for the School of Education. Upon completion of the Respiratory Care Pediatric Pulmonary Center Traineeship in 1997 he earned his Masters degree. He worked for two years as a Clinical Coordinator for Respiratory Therapy at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama before becoming the Education Coordinator for Respiratory Therapy at University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital. During the search for a Department Director, Brian served on the interim management team. He then assumed the role of Supervisor which he held until spring of 2002. Beyond being a Registered Respiratory Therapist, Brian has received certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Neonatal Advanced Life Support. In 2000, in an unprecedented and to this date unmatched move, Brian was elected President of the Alabama Society for Respiratory Care for two consecutive terms. He also presented the graduation commencement address for Wallace State College. Already a seasoned speaker, Brian has lectured for the American Lung Association, the Birmingham Area Critical Care Consortium, and many other local health care professionals. Brian also has served as an interim Professor in the UAB Respiratory Care Program. He has served on UAB’s Ventilator Protocol, Medication Protocol, Critical Care, Patient Assessment, and Hospital Education Committees. He is a member of the Coalition for Tobacco Free Alabama and VOICES for Alabama’s Children. In 1998, Brian published an article entitled “Suctioning: Continuing Education Needs for Health Care Practitioners” in New Challenge, Moving Nursing Forward, Vol. 7, No. 2. Brian then attended Birmingham School of Law and graduated near the top of his class, successfully took and passed the bar, and has since been practicing in the legal field. |
