From the moment a couple contemplates divorce until after the divorce is final, both parties must protect their individual property interests. Lawyers and judges concentrate on the legal issues, not the long-term financial consequences of divorce.

  • Decide whether to keep or sell the house
  • Protect yourself against misuse of joint accounts and credit cards
  • Prevent tax problems
  • Handle alimony and child support
  • Divide debts
  • Reduce risks to your investments
  • Avoid making hasty decisions that could hurt you financially
  • Know the difference between how a court evaluates assets and what they're really worth

When divorce is inevitable, you must make sure that you are getting what you deserve! Your property is categorized as either "marital" or "separate" and each spouse is entitled to a portion (often 50%) of that which is "marital". The goal of this book is to make sure you understand what is considered marital property, so you are well aware of what you are entitled to. Do yourself the financial favor and read this book! The consequences of not understanding and finding out when it is too late can be financially and emotionally devastating!

Book #3
The Book
Pension Issues & Divorce
Price with Package: $24.95
Normal Price: $29.95
You Save: $5.00

When couples get divorced they must decide how to divide their property. Retirement benefits (pensions) often form a substantial part of the parties' total marital estate and many times are the largest single marital asset afforded the couple. Similar to other assets, pensions are typically divisible in cases of divorce to the extent that they are acquired during the period of marriage. In order to divide a pension, the value of the retirement benefits accumulated during the period of marriage must be determined. The division of these benefits follows a 3-step process.

1. Classification
Each pension is classified as to whether or not it is considered property, and from there, separate or marital property. There is a broad general consensus that retirement plans of all types do constitute property.

2. Valuation
Each pension that is considered marital property is appraised to determine its value.

3. Distribution
Each pension that is considered marital property is analyzed to determine the most equitable way it should be divided and distributed to the parties.
