AFDC (Aid to Families with Dependent Children)
- a welfare cash grant issued to a family with children who need financial assistance, usually because the head of the household (the custodial parent) is unemployed and not receiving child support or childcare assistance from the noncustodial parent.
Application in Divorce
This Depression-era program was replaced by the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program in 1996.
