Term Definition Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) - a 1997 federally funded plan providing health insurance to uninsured children.
Application in Divorce This plan is federally funded and works at a state level.

Under CHIP, the states offer a number of different plans to cover previously uninsured children in families of certain income levels. The states match federal funds, so the criteria vary from state to state.

A large percentage of divorces in the U.S. are caused by financial stress due to loss of employment. With loss of employment comes loss of benefits, which can leave divorcing parents and their Insurance Program (CHIP) provides temporary help to these families.
