Term Definition Sole Custody - a form of custody in which one parent is awarded both physical and legal custody.
Application in Divorce In most divorces, it is the exception rather than the rule for sole custody to be awarded.

Sole custody is not normally used unless there is a compelling reason. In this arrangement, the custodial parent makes all decisions concern school, friends, social activities -- everything and anything touching the life of the child.
