Mississippi Divorce Mediation, Counseling and Parenting Classes
Mississippi Divorce Mediation:
Mississippi does not mandate mediation. There are no legal provisions for it. Deadlocked spouses may hire a mediator outside of court to tackle issues without litigation. He or she assists the parties in coming to an agreement; he or she does not force the parties to agree nor issue any orders.
Mediation may be appropriate when issues can be resolved and agreed upon amicably through a conference rather than through the court.
Mississippi Marriage Counseling:
For marriages with children, the court has the right to order a reconciliation conference for the parents and/or counseling for the children, which would likely involve the services of a well trained, court-appointed counselor or therapist.
Mississippi Parenting Class:
Parenting classes or any other type of educational activity may be ordered, depending on the court’s assessment of the best interests of the children.
The Parent Education Course may be required in the state of Mississippi for parents divorcing according to Mississippi Code 93-5-24. All Mississippi courts that allow distance learning recognize the online parenting classes.
