Missouri Divorce Mediation, Counseling and Parenting Classes
Missouri Divorce Mediation:

The court rules require a minimum of two hours of mediation for disputed issues related to children. Mediation can resolve disputes more quickly, efficiently and economically.

Missouri Marriage Counseling:

If one spouse denies that the marriage is irretrievably broken, the court may continue the action for further hearing not less than 30 days or more than six months. It may suggest counseling, but the court shall not require counseling as a condition of a decree. No employee of any court, or of the state or any political subdivision of Missouri may act as a marriage counselor. At an adjourned hearing, the court determines whether the marriage is actually irretrievably broken. [Missouri Statutes; Title 30, Chapter 452, 320].

Missouri Parenting Class:

All parents in a dissolution of marriage, legal separation or paternity action in which there are children 17 years and younger must attend a Parent Educational Program. Petitioner attends within 45 days of the filing; the respondent attends within 45 days after service of process. Parents may attend the court-sponsored program or any program approved by the Administrative Family Court Judge.

Local court rules require that when custody or visitation is at issue both parents attend a parenting class. The title of the class varies from county to county; however, all the programs make parents aware of the trauma children may experience when their parents divorce. There is a small cost involved in attending a parenting class.
