Oregon Divorce Mediation:
The court may refer parents to mediation for up to 90 days when they dispute custody and child support issues. When parents contest custody and visitation issues, the court orders mediation, unless there is a history of domestic violence or child abuse. [Oregon Revised Statutes; Volume 2, 107.179, 107.540, and 107.550].
Divorcing spouses may turn to mediation on their own. Mediation is a form of alternative dispute resolution in which a trained, neutral third party helps the spouses negotiate the terms of custody and parenting time.
Oregon Marriage Counseling:
Certain Oregon courts offer conciliation services. Either spouse or the court may delay a dissolution for the 45 days while the couple attempts reconciliation.
Oregon Parenting Class:
Mandatory only in certain counties for parents who are seeking a divorce according to 2011 Oregon Revised Statutes, ORS Volume 1, Chapter 3, 3.425 Family Law Education Programs.
