Managing Your Stress During Your Divorce
Key Points
Since you are facing divorce and/or separation you probably have become very familiar with stress. How you deal with the stress is not only important to your health, but also affects your child's well being. As will be reinforced over and over, your child is a product of his or her environment, and it is that environment you must control in order to spare your child from the harm that can be caused by divorce and/or separation. Fixing or changing the stressful situation can be a viable solution to decreasing stress, but if what is causing the stress can not be changed, or changed easily, this type of solution may only increase it. Often times, one parent will attempt to change the other parent, rather than accepting him or her for who he or she really is. This is a common mistake that causes relationship stress which can lead to an unhealthy divorce and/or separation. It is recommended that you analyze what is causing the stress and decide if working on your own feelings is not an alternative solution. Do you think you can change? If you can continue to accept things, especially people for who they are, you and your child will most likely be healthier and happier.
