West Virginia Divorce Mediation, Counseling and Parenting Classes
West Virginia Divorce Mediation:
The court decides issues left unresolved between the parties after a mediation session (or after several mediation sessions, if the parties agree to more). The fee for the mediator in these sessions is paid by the state. [West Virginia Code; 48-9-104]. West Virginia Marriage Counseling:
There is no mandatory divorce counseling in West Virginia. West Virginia Parenting Class:
When a divorce involves a minor child, the court orders the parents to an education class, so they understand the effects of divorce and custody disputes on children. This is required in an effort to reduce the trauma to the child. The session is mandatory for divorcing parents. Parent education may be waived if the court finds that attendance is not necessary.
