I realize my brain is quite fried after a fubar'd day from hell, but in response to your question, I must ask....

Huh?

Is that what you do, or are you asking what that translates to in the real world? Like a Sanitation Engineer is a trash hauler.

; )

I await your enlightened response.

You sound like a Philadelphia Lawyer...

Savannah is such a treat that our employees activities committee has chartered a bus there for a day trip in June.

As for Boss Hog, will Roscoe P. Coltrane do? The actor was a native, and I believe he recently passed away.

Former Air Force Security Police crossed trained into Intel after 3.5 years. Served 6 years Active, 1 year IMA (reserve). Got out as an E-5.

I did not think the AF would let me stay in any longer:)

I was at GITMO in 1995 for 6 months. Navy cooks are the best!

Miranda, I did the GITMO experience 3 times ( shakedown cruises.) I remember coming topside after shutting engines down, and reading the graffiti, "Rock of Sweat".

All and all Cuba was Ok. As for Navy cooks, it was a Navy cook that introduced me to my STBX(ooohh, the irony) he's still cooking up trouble...

So where are the "Jarheads?" Army, Navy, Air Force....and Marines.

The AF is REALLY fickle. One year they will allow those with peanut allergies in, the next they won't. One year they will allow GED holders, the next they will not. The lack of continuity is really annoying across the board.

Cuba was beautiful. I have never seen untouched waters like that before. I lived on the USS Britanis, and in Camp Phillips, some of my partners lived in that old housing area that flooded constantly.

I worked in Camp X-Ray and Camp Charlie, X-ray is now where the Taliban detainees are being held. I was there when the govt of Panama kicked all of the Cuban refugees out of the country and we had to move them back to Cuba.

GITMO had a great NEX and very nice hospital. I was just talking about "banana rats" the other day LOL...

I am waiting for Castro to kick the bucket and then maybe we will take a vacation to Cuba. I guarantee that will be one great vacation spot.

Peanut allergies...that's a new one. I enlisted in 1974, chicken feather allergies would prevent you from enlisting...never did figure out if that had something to do with inoculations or pillows.

Castro is one scrappy SOB. His brother seems much more mellow...I agree Cuba will again be a tourist destination once Fidel is gone.

Had a few rounds in the "Club" , had my first martini there...It was served in a throw-away plastic cup!

I guess something like 95% of the MRE's have some form of peanut in them. So a peanut in essence would put you on "non mobility" status. At least in the AF.

Well I'd heard they were the easiest branch back in the 80's so gave em a shot on delayed entry out of high school. No one would touch me as a former open heart surgery patient, even with my doctor's letter giving the ok. Bums.

They sure would, the Army needs more people every day to support the Artillery, Infantry and Armor, just like the Air Force and Navy support them now. After all, there is the Infantry, Armor, Artillery and everything else.

Has the pay improved any? When I enlisted starting pay was $325/month. Married couples living off base lived in poverty. I remember visiting some couples and thought I'd never marry as long as I was in Navy.

I hope we as a Nation improved upon that; but then again, you here about Water Reed Hospital, don't know if that was media distortion, an aberration...but the boss did step down.

I spent 6 weeks at Philadelphia Naval Hospital, do to an accident in the shipyards, I recieved excellent care.

When you think about it, the Military is a heck of a way to make a modest living.

Pay has increased dramatically since I got out, even housing allowances. When I was in under the Clinton Admin. pay sucked, big time. When Bush took over my H, along with many other ranks got hit with 6%-8% pay increases two years in a row. We live in San Antonio, our housing allowance is $1401, this year my H's taxble income was 6 figures (due to a bonus/ O-4 flyer), not to mention tax free allowances like BAS and BAQ.

We are doing much better now than, back in the early 90's when I started out. My paychecks used to be 190.00 every two weeks as an E-2.

Aviation Electrican's Mate Second Class, should have stayed in, did not realize how much I would miss it. (it was family that made the decision to get out and no sight of a rotation to a justified shore duty)
out of 4 commands I only had 1 rotation of shore duty and did not see one of those big grey, floaty thingys until my last year for cruise workups on the USS John C Stennis.

it was a matter of picking the right rate and right field.
helicopters.
it was the F-14 that put me on the Stennis.

as far as the good eats goes - AUTEC - in the Bahamas.
nothing beat going there for mid-rats.

In 1980 my base pay was 448 a month, before taxes, I was making a cool 112 dollars a week. Carter had that huge pay raise and it jumped to 501 in late 1980. It has it ebbs and flows through the tax frees zones, seperation pay, etc. But after I got out in 2001 my retirement check was 1400, and with raises has gone up to 1600. It may not have been huge money, but I could not complain, could afford everything we needed and then some. Besides, where else can you shoot cannons unless you wanna be a pirate and we all know that profession sucks. A E1 today has a base pay of 1301. An intersting link for all previous pay tables from 1949 is:

The funny thing, is that my base pay is 12X what my paygrade and years of service were in 1949, my flight pay is not quite 2X..

I guess flight pay used to REALLY be a big chunk of your pay back then.

Flight pay goes up and down. It really makes no sense to me. If my Husband makes O-5 his flight pay will drop down to almost O-2/low O-3 flight pay. So his base pay will go up 500 bucks, but his flight pay will drop 500 bucks so where is the incentive for promotion?

I don't know. Something has to be done. I would much rather there be insurgents fighting in Iraq instead of Boston or London.

I am tired of our troops being killed for nothing. That area has been like this since Biblical times. Turmoil is innate to those people, their culture thrives on it.

I was deployed to Saudi after they bombed Khobar Towers. I think we should have done something then. We should have done something after the Embassy bombings in Africa, we should have done something after the Cole attack. This shyt should have been nipped in the bud a LONG, LONG time ago.

My first deployment was to the Mediterranean (1975). Once there, we were ordered to sit off the coast of Lebanon, to assist in the evacuation of civilians (we were the NATO Flagship).

In 1979, as I walked down the pier for the last time, my ship was "spinning screws", getting underway for Iran.

They have us over the barrel, so to speak, the oil barrel...

Alternative fuels might be the way to fight them...did you see the lines at the gas pumps in Iraq? What's with that...

Republican candidate John McCain (probably misspelled, what did you expect from a Democrat?) spoke recently.

Keeping it short...Global warming is a threat and so is our Nation's dependence on oil.

He is the GOP front runner...because he strikes a chord with guys like me...
