Can anyone help with this? I'm an atty working for Army Recruiting at Ft. Sam Houston, TX. Our regulations state that single parents can't enlist, but if state law considers a "mutually agreed-upon contract" between two unmarried parents as sufficient to transfer custody of their child from one parent to the other, without a court order, then we can enlist the non-custodial parent. of course, the proponent of the reg issued no guidelines as to which states allow same. We have an Iowa applicant (female) wanting to join. Thanks for any assistance.

I am currently in North Carolina, I had a somewhat similiar suitation with my Daughter-in-law, she as well wanted to go into the service( ARMY) she and hubby were seperated, he being stationed overseas in Japan. They told her when she went to enlist that custody of the child would have to be signed over, Her recruiter was going to handle all paperwork at the county courthouse.Sorry if this dosen't help, only wanted to let you know the way it is here in NC.
