My son wants to join the military and has now for what seems to be forever. He is asking me to let him sign up at 17. This would allow him to go do his basis in the summer of his junior year of high school.

Someone told me that if a child preregisters for military service at the age of 17 that he would be considered government property and that the child support would stop at this time?

Is this true?

Now, keep in mind, this child is 16 now and has always lived with me.

I believe that the support will stop only if the father files for it to be stopped
but you might want to contact the courts of which the order came from
